Fall League Varsity, JV and Freshman team Rankings - week of 10/17/2019

Here's an updated ranking for CNR and some SLUH fall league teams.  I have some results from the Magic from their SLUH league so that I can compare some of the teams they have played in the SLUH league to common CNR opponents.  I have been able to add MICDS, Soldan, McCluer, and SLUH from the SLUH Fall league.

Francis Howell, behind a strong fall showing by Matt Schark, Sam Thompson, Sam Maddox, and Preston Fortner, still leads the varsity teams but MICDS is not far behind, mainly on the leadership of Jack Pronger, Brandon Mitchell-Day, Hasani Spann, and Nick Roper.  Ladue has slipped a little with losses to lesser rated teams.  Westminster has won but had closer games to several low ranked teams.  Of course, a number of teams have players with football commitment that prevent them from playing for their fall team, so you can take all of this with a grain of salt.

I have included some 8th grade teams in these rankings but their rating is based upon the varsity teams.  I will post a separate 2024 rankings based on just the eighth grade teams so you will see a difference in ratings between the two.

The CNR tournament will be a good look at the top teams going into November varsity practices.  I will put out a pre-season rankings in a couple of weeks and then post Varsity boys ratings throughout the winter.

Losers and Winners - it's all in your perspective

The following is an excerpt from my memory book I am writing for the grandchildren.  This chapter is from my college days as a scholarship track athlete who wasn't supposed to play intramural sports. Intramural sports was a good release from the grind of intercollegiate athletics and the pressure of engineering classwork.  I was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma professional fraternity, a bunch of chemistry and chemical engineering geek, who loved sports and lived in a house that should have been torn down.  It wasn't quite Animal House, but it was close. Musing over small town basketball - Where in the heck is Dora, Missouri? Or Mountain Lake, Minnesota?

Last year, I posted a blog about "Where in the heck is Zalma, Missouri?" and talked about how much I was learning about Missouri geography by rating all 530+ Missouri State High School Athletic Association boys basketball teams.  I would often pull up Google Maps to locate a small town school and found out that Zalma was in SE Missouri. For those that have not heard of Dora MO boys basketball, you were probably thinking I was talking about Dora the Explorer and not a premier class 1 basketball team that recently beat a top Oklahoma City's Heritage Hall class 4 team by 5.  They have one of the top shooters in the country, Isaac Haney, a 6'1" 2021 shooting guard who can put up 30 points faster than you can get popcorn at the concession stand.  They also have triplets, Austen, Mason and Bryson Luna, who make up an awesome, albeit small, cadre of superstars in a tiny town R-3 high school that has a one sentence Wikipedia description.  But don't take these guys

Basketball and Coronavirus - What's next? What can you do?

It's hard getting up in the morning.  Some days I don't remember what day of the week it is.  My grandkids are struggling.  They are stressed.  They can't do the things that they want to do.   I finally bought myself a golf driving net and set it up against the house in the backyard and I hit a couple hundred golf balls a day and work on form.  My wife and I are walking the neighborhood, sorting old digital photos, fixing stuff and knocking out Honey-Do Lists that I have avoided for years. I told my grandson, who was looking forward to the AAU 17U season that he might be lucky to play in July and August.  Very Lucky.  Schools are closed for the rest of the spring.  I feel real badly for all of those spring sports teams.  I feel bad about the Spring AAU schedule disappearing.  I doubt that there will be a June HS practice and game schedule.  I doubt everything our "President" says about opening up the country.  IF WE KEEP UP THE SOCIAL DISTANCING FOR ANOTHER 40 D
