West and NW Missouri Boys Basketball ratings 1/22/2020
I have had a number of inquiries from Kansas City area fans who questioned the ratings for Raymore-Peculiar and Ruskin. I scrubbed the algorithm model and added more recent KC area games to catch up on those great teams. I looked at the KD High School Hoops tweet with the top Greater KC Suburban Conference teams in the top 25 KC area teams.
It looks like a dog eat dog conference with upsets here and there. The model takes into account game comparisons for the entire season so one loss does not skew the rating. You could take the top ten teams and put them in a hat and have an equal chance of picking the best teams out there as you would banking on the coaches polls or local ratings. They are all good. I have looked at Staley, who seems to have a pretty tough schedule, compared to Raytown South, and they have lost a few to St. Louis teams (McCluer, Confluence) so that helps me anchor the KC area with the St. Louis teams. I give Staley a slight nod over Ray-Pec who had a loss early in the season to a good Joplin team that lost by 24 to Francis Howell. Thus, by my mathematical modeling, the St. Louis area has a slight edge over the KC teams. Not my opinion. It's based on plugging scores into the spreadsheet.
So here's my look at the West/NW Missouri top 50. Enjoy and come back later to view my ratings for every Missouri team in the MSHSAA.
