Missouri All Classes Top 50 Boys Basketball Rankings week 1 11/30/2019
UPDATED 12/1 FOR INCORRECT CLASS OR DISTRICT ASSIGNMENT
It's early and only about half of the teams have had one or two games but I thought I would post this top 50 rankings for all Missouri boys basketball classes combined. I will post the teams by class in the next post.
De Smet has been in action over the Thanksgiving holiday and did well early on but ran in to nationally ranked #10, Woodward Academy of Georgia, losing by 25 to the hot shooting War Eagles, 64-39. One of the top rated Illinois teams, East St. Louis got rocked 56-50 by great Cardinal Ritter squad before crushing St. Mary's by 36, 82-46.
There is some great talent on Ritter, including Mario Fleming, Ilyaas Harris, Garry Clark and Josh Robinson, among others. This team is cruising after many of them had played for the 2021 Team Ramey 16U last summer.
I watched them a number of games last summer, including a game of two completely different halves with Larry Hughes 16U, led by Sam Thompson (now Mokan Elite) and Preston Fortner of Francis Howell, Myles Estrada (FHC), Logan Wich (PW), Anthony Phiffer (WG) and Nate Parker (Eureka). You can catch the first half of the game on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoSLZsTfk_U, where Larry Hughes shot over 60% beyond the arc and led 41-21 at half. The second half was a complete reversal, with Ramey going on a 24-4 run to tie the game at 52 all, before Phiffer and Parker hit some key baskets and free throw at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoSLZsTfk_U
The only reason I bring that game up is it show cases the tremendous talent in the St. Louis Area. If you might need a basketball fix before the heavy holiday season, this would be it. Earl, I think you were broadcasting the Gateway-Ramey 17U game at the time, so you should catch this game with all you idle downtime. LOL
A lot can happen in the rankings as more games get entered into the calculations, but right now, here is where I think the top 50 teams in the state are. My algorithm tells me so....
