Missouri Boys State play-off predictions

Well, I have come this far in the season and been right on about 80% of my picks.  I know that I will make someone mad by picking the other team and I also know that the accuracy goes down the farther along in the play-offs we go.  By the state finals, I will be lucky to pick 65% of the games correctly.  The competition tightens up and the games swing on one or two lucky or unlucky bounces.

So here's my Missouri boys picks for classes one through five.  I have listed the next games for all classes and a long range prediction for class four and five on who will win.  Sixteen teams and a lot of games 'til the final.  Anything can happen.

Class One
Dora over Jefferson Conception 14
St. Elizabeth over Golden City  17
Dora wins state over St. Elizabeth 16
Comments:  I don't see anything in the Falcons path to a title after getting past South Iron last week.
Class Two
Skyline over Oran 9
Hartville over Milan 17
Hartville wins state over Skyline 10
Comments:  Hartville runs away with a title now that they squeeked by Greenwood and Animu Mohammed (which I predicted).
Class Three
Charleston over Monroe City 19
Ritter over Blair Oaks 4
Ritter-Charleston state champ? PickEm
Comments:  I can't pick a winner here.  I would say Ritter, if I was forced to guess because I don't want MOBetta Sports to get on my case.  LOL
Class Four
Cape ND over Park Hills Central 8
Westminster over St. Mary's 8
Raytown South over Grandview 3
St Joe Lafayette over Lincoln Prep 3
Vashon over Ladue 24
St. Dominic's over Kirksville 15
Helias over Rolla 7
Logan Rogersville over Webb City 2
Long Range Prediction
Vashon beats Raytown South in final 14
Comments:  What else can I say?  Wolves all the way.
Class Five
Mehlville over Jackson 31
Chaminade over Marquette 21
Raymore Peculiar over Blue Springs 3
Staley - Liberty KC PickEm
CBC over Hazelwood Central 14
Francis Howell over Ft. Zumwalt North 13
Rock Bridge over Ozark 2
Kickapoo over Joplin 2
Long Range Prediction
CBC over Mehlville 3
Comments: There are multiple teams that could win this including Chaminade, Staley or Liberty KC in the top bracket and Francis Howell or Rockbridge in the bottom bracket, but I don't see anyone touching the Cadets with Caleb Love.  All of these games will be nail biters after the first round.

Basketball and Coronavirus - What's next? What can you do?

It's hard getting up in the morning.  Some days I don't remember what day of the week it is.  My grandkids are struggling.  They are stressed.  They can't do the things that they want to do.   I finally bought myself a golf driving net and set it up against the house in the backyard and I hit a couple hundred golf balls a day and work on form.  My wife and I are walking the neighborhood, sorting old digital photos, fixing stuff and knocking out Honey-Do Lists that I have avoided for years. I told my grandson, who was looking forward to the AAU 17U season that he might be lucky to play in July and August.  Very Lucky.  Schools are closed for the rest of the spring.  I feel real badly for all of those spring sports teams.  I feel bad about the Spring AAU schedule disappearing.  I doubt that there will be a June HS practice and game schedule.  I doubt everything our "President" says about opening up the country.  IF WE KEEP...

Musing over small town basketball - Where in the heck is Dora, Missouri? Or Mountain Lake, Minnesota?

Last year, I posted a blog about "Where in the heck is Zalma, Missouri?" and talked about how much I was learning about Missouri geography by rating all 530+ Missouri State High School Athletic Association boys basketball teams.  I would often pull up Google Maps to locate a small town school and found out that Zalma was in SE Missouri. For those that have not heard of Dora MO boys basketball, you were probably thinking I was talking about Dora the Explorer and not a premier class 1 basketball team that recently beat a top Oklahoma City's Heritage Hall class 4 team by 5.  They have one of the top shooters in the country, Isaac Haney, a 6'1" 2021 shooting guard who can put up 30 points faster than you can get popcorn at the concession stand.  They also have triplets, Austen, Mason and Bryson Luna, who make up an awesome, albeit small, cadre of superstars in a tiny town R-3 high school that has a one sentence Wikipedia description.  But don't take these guys ...
