CNR FALL BOYS BASKETBALL RATINGS- VARSITY, JV AND FRESHMAN LEAGUES

I started looking at the CNR Fall varsity league team ratings and expanded it into the JV and Freshman leagues because of cross-over on the schedule, ie. teams playing up or down, so that I can calculate a comparative rating for all three levels. adjusted 9/27 I have updated the ratings and included some 8th grade (2024) teams that are playing up to freshman or JV level.  These ratings are based upon the CNR varsity teams.  You may have seen my 2024 blog posted a few days ago.  The 2024 ratings are based upon the top 8th grade teams so there is a 75 or 80 point difference in the ratings.  So if an eighth grade team (ie. Triple Threat at 66 rating) played Francis Howell, the score differential would be 131-66 or 65 points. So, while the CNR fall league is just into a few weeks of play, here's a first look at the teams in the league: CNR Team Rating Francis Howell Varsity Boys 131 Ladue Varsity Boys 123 Borgia Vars

First Look - St. Louis Boys Basketball - Public Schools League

There isn't a lot of data on the Post Dispatch website on scoring and even graduation dates.  I am not sure why?  Does anyone hazard to take a guess?  Not sufficient staffing would be my first thought.  Insufficient funding for athletic and activities programs?  No money to hire a statistician, small coaching staffs, too much on their plate, all of the above. Most of the teams don't have a full season of scoring so that means that their scores and stats aren't being submitted.  Many of the well-to-do schools hire HUDL to watch and score their games on video.  That means you have to have the equipment and videographer to do the video and someone to manage and submit stats to the P-D.  That all takes money, which many of these fine St. Louis Public Schools don't have.   But that's a long and sad story of white flight and St. Louis city vs county and fund sharing and all of that which would make our schools throughout the region more standardized and equal. First Look - Missouri Boys Basketball - Gateway Central conference outlook

Corrected 9/20 I talked about the Gateway South conference a few weeks ago and then was side-tracked by the AAA conference analysis.  Fort Zumwalt South was the premier team the past few years, relying heavily of EJ Bellinger to carry the scoring load to some great seasons.  How do these teams look on returnees and return scorers for this coming season? I also need to apologize to Holt for misplacing them in the Central conference with Timberland.  The two teams switched places in 2018-2019.  Since I already discussed Timberland in the South post, I will carry over my mistake and talk about Holt with the Central even though they left two years ago.  I reposted Timberland at the end of the blog. My, oh, my, how does one keep up with the changing conferences and district pairings?  Someone out there is saying "Gramps, you are losing what little mind you have left".  I know exactly how this happened....  I started examining returnees two years ago and didn't go back and

First Look - Missouri Boys Basketball - AAA Division II conference preview

I posted the  AAA Division I conference earlier today and here's the other half, with Division II, another really strong division.  Since 2016, Trinity has been an elite basketball program with back to back 20+ win seasons.  25-4 last season, only pair of losses in the state championship game and an one point mid-season to Vashon marred a nearly perfect season.  And while Trinity has only half their scoring back, they boast seven footer, Ryan Kalkbrenner and Rashad Weekly-McDaniels, the Prep Hoops #3 and #9 rated Missouri seniors, who will pave the way.   O'Fallon Christian, DuBourg, Duchesne and Lutheran St. Charles will all need superior effort to unseat Trinity from another conference title.  Overall, both conferences are super tough.   Here's a breakdown on returnees and return scoring: AAA Division II 2018-2019 Record # % % Avg 2020 Avg 2019 2019 Rating Wins Losses  Returnees Return Scoring Hgt

First Look - Missouri boys basketball - St. Louis AAA Division I conference

So far, I have taken a quick look at seven St. Louis area conferences (including today), primarily examining statistics on how many returnees and how much of last year's scoring is coming back to each team and prognosticating about how I think this will impact their record and power rating this coming year. These prognostications are based on digging into Post-Dispatch stats and knowledge gained from Prep Hoops Missouri and the esteemed Earl Austin, Jr, who does a whole lot of work talking to players and watching games throughout the spring, summer and fall, and of course, the winter ball season.  So my advice to you is, if you haven't already done so, get a subscription to the on-line Prep Hoops Missouri for $100 a year and if you can't afford that, try a one month subscription for $14.99 for a couple of months.  But don't stop ready and liking my blogs.  Once I finish these scratch the surface analyses, I will start digging into my high school power ratings, which a
